Gymnastics Finishes Second in Denver

Chambliss takes third in all-around debut with 39.150
DENVER – In its second and final trip out West this season, the George Washington gymnastics team posted a 194.900 to take second in dual meet action at the University of Denver.
The host Pioneers, who currently rank fifth nationally, posted a season-high matching score of 197.425 to secure the victory.
GW earned its 194.900 behind team scores of 48.625 on vault, 48.550 on bars, 48.925 on beam, and 48.800 on floor.
Coming back from a season-ending achilles injury in 2019, sophomore Deja Chambliss made her all-around debut in Magness Arena, going four-for-four with her routines to finish third with a 39.150. The Chesterfield, Va., native earned her 39.150 behind a 9.775 on vault, 9.750 on bars, 9.800 on beam, and 9.825 on floor.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their start on bars, finishing with a team score of 48.550. The duo of Deja Chambliss and Hannah Munnelly led the way with matching 9.750s, while Olivia Raymond followed closely behind with a 9.725. Rachel Kaplan, in her second appearance in the bar lineup, also performed a beautiful routine with a season-high 9.770. Simone Banen earned a 9.625 to cap rotation one.
ROTATION TWO
GW moved to vault for the second rotation, posting a 48.625. Chambliss continued her momentum from bars, tying for the team lead with Cydney Crasa with identical scores of 9.775. Warhol matched her season-high with a 9.750, Olivia Norman earned a 9.700, and Munnelly added a 9.625 to give GW its 48.625.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue took to floor for rotation three, earning a score of 48.800. With a trio of injuries in the Colonials' floor lineup, Chambliss made her 2020 floor debut with a career-high 9.825. The Chesterfield, Va., native, topped the team with Crasa for the second straight event. Warhol also had a career-high night with a 9.775, while Munnelly posted a 9.700 in her first collegiate appearance on floor. Zona wrapped up the third rotation with a 9.675.
ROTATION FOUR
GW had its best event of the day on beam, finishing with a 48.925. Hannah Cohen topped the team for the third straight meet with a 9.850, while Banen followed closely behind with a career-high matching 9.825. Chambliss posted a career-high of her own on beam with a 9.800 to finish the day four-for-four in the all-around. Zona added a 9.775 and Raymond finished with a 9.775 to cap GW's afternoon in Denver.
ISN'T IT SWEET: The Colonials will return home to host NC State, NIU, and Temple for their Sweet Meet (Brownie & Girl Scout Day) on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. The meet will be contested on podium, an elevated competition floor as seen at the NCAA Gymnastics National Championship, for the first time in GW program history.
