Gymnastics Posts Season-High at Sweet Meet on Podium

Colonials finish second with 195.900

WASHINGTON – In its first podium meet in program history in the Charles E. Smith Center, the George Washington gymnastics team posted a season-high 195.900 to finish second at its Sweet Meet on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials earned their season-best score behind a 48.900 on vault, a season-high matching 49.000 on bars, a 48.825 on beam, and season-high 49.175 on floor.
East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State topped the field with a 196.025, while Northern Illinois finished third (195.400) and Temple took fourth (195.075).
In her first all-around appearance in the Smith Center, and second of her career, Deja Chambliss posted a career-high 39.275 to finish the afternoon at the top of the podium. The sophomore went four-for-four for the second-straight week, posting a 9.850 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and career-high 9.875 on floor.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials kicked off their podium meet on vault, finishing with a score of 48.900. Chambliss topped the team with a 9.850 to finish first while senior co-captain Cydney Crasa followed closely behind with a 9.800 to take third. The first-year duo of Hannah Munnelly and Katherine Shek both hit career-highs with matching 9.750s. Olivia Norman also scored a 9.750 to give GW its 48.900 total.
ROTATION TWO
GW moved to bars for the second rotation, earning a season-high matching score of 49.000. The sophomore pair of Olivia Raymond and Simone Banen paced the squad with identical scores of 9.825. For Raymond, the score matched a career-high. Warhol posted a 9.800 while Chambliss and Munnelly finished with 9.775s to wrap the bars lineup.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue took to beam for rotation three, posting a score of 48.825. Banen topped the team with a career-high 9.900, marking the first 9.900 of her career. The sophomore also took the outright beam title. Hannah Cohen followed closely behind with a 9.875 to finish in a tie for second, while Chambliss finished with a 9.775. Olivia Zona earned a 9.650 and Raymond added a 9.625 to cap the third rotation.
ROTATION FOUR
GW wrapped its afternoon on floor, finishing with a season-high 49.175. Crasa capped her afternoon on a high note, posting a career-high 9.900 to finish second on the podium. The 9.900 marked the first of her career. Chambliss also put together a solid routine with a personal-best 9.875 to earn third, while Warhol posted a career-high of her own with a 9.825. Zona earned a 9.775 and Rachel Kaplan posted a 9.775 to conclude GW's podium meet.

The Colonials will head back out on the road next week, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a dual meet with UNC on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The squad will get a taste of what it's like to compete in Carmichael Arena, the site of the 2020 EAGL Championship.
