TIPPING OFF: Coming off a historic quadruple overtime win against Davidson on Wednesday, GW men's basketball travels to Richmond on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a chance to move above .500 in A-10 play. The game will be live on ESPN+, NBC Sports Washington+ and the TuneIn radio app.
LAST TIME OUT: It took 60 minutes of basketball to determine a winner on Wednesday night, and in the end, the good guys prevailed, 107-104. After leading 42-40 at the half, the final 20 minutes of regulation saw a nip and tuck battle to the end. Trailing 73-69, Maceo Jack knocked down a 3-pointer with :40 remaining to help push the game into overtime.
Davidson had a chance to win the game at the buzzer of the first OT, but Amir Harris rejected a jumper by Jon Axel Gudmundsson to extend to an extra session. The Wildcats jumped out to a six-point edge, 86-80 in the second overtime, but Arnaldo Toro's entrance to the game re-energized the squad as he dropped six points in two minutes, including a layup that tied the score with 15 seconds left.
Once again, GW needed to score in the final seconds of the third overtime to extend play, and thanks to a Jameer Nelson Jr. layup with :19 left, fans would be treated to what is now the longest game in Smith Center history, a four-overtime classic. In those final five minutes, Nelson and Battle splashed back-to-back 3-pointers to push GW ahead for good.
