Amir Harris finished with his first double-double as a Buff & Blue
RICHMOND, Va. — Amir Harris finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Colonial, but a tough Richmond team pulled away early for a 76-54 win over GW on Saturday evening at the Robins Center.
The rookie class combined for half of GW's points, led by Jameer Nelson Jr. with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jamison Battle extended his made 3-point basket streak to 22 games with a splash midway through the opening half and finished with six points. Chase Paar also had six points and pulled down three rebounds, while Shawn Walker Jr. had four points off the bench.
GW led 12-11 after an Arnaldo Toro jumper in the paint before Richmond scored six straight and led 17-12 with 11:31 left in the first half. The Spiders then turned a one-point game (17-16) into a 35-19 lead off an 18-3 late spurt. GW trailed 39-22 at the half.
In the second half, the Colonials shot 50% from the field, but it was wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit as Richmond added to its lead and scored half of their 50 points in the paint in the final frame.
Richmond's Grant Golden led all scorers with 20 points and was one of four Spiders in double figures.
The Colonials will finish out their two-game road swing with a trek to St. Bonaventure on Wednesday evening. The game will be live on Stadium and the TuneIn radio app.
