
Gymnastics Heads West for Quad-Meet at UC Davis

Colonials travel to California to face Aggies, Sacramento State and Alaska
LEADING OFF: The George Washington gymnastics team is set to head back out on the road this week with a swing out west to Davis, Calif. The Colonials are set to face UC Davis in quad meet action with Sacramento State and Alaska on Friday at 7 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT: The Buff and Blue opened their home slate with the 13th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Sunday afternoon in the Charles E. Smith Center. Behind strong team performances on vault and uneven bars, the Colonials finished the day second with a team score of 193.225. Kent State finished first with a score of 195.325, while GW totaled its 193.225 behind team scores of 48.975 on vault, 48.850 on bars, 48.800 on beam and 46.600 on floor.

WILD WEST: The Colonials are set to make their first of two trips out west this week. After Friday's quad meet at UC Davis, the team will travel to Denver, Colo. on Feb. 16 to go head-to-head with the University of Denver. The Pioneers finished the 2019 season ranking fourth in the nation and currently sit fourth with a 197.250 high and 196.900 average.Â

RAISING THE BAR: The Buff and Blue posted a season-high on bars on Sunday, earning a 48.850, a 0.95 increase from the previous week. The sophomore trio of Olivia Raymond, Simone Banen and Deja Chambliss topped the team with matching 9.800s to finish in a tie for first. Anna Warhol and Katya Karpova posted identical 9.725s to give the Colonials their season-high score.

TRENDING UP: GW's lineup on vault stayed consistent at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, matching its season-high score of 48.975. Chambliss lead the way, pacing the squad with a career-high 9.875 to tie for the top spot on the podium. Chloe Vitoff also hit a personal-best with a 9.825 to finish third, while senior co-captain Cydney Crasa secured a 9.800. Olivia Norman added a 9.750 and Hannah Munnelly posted a 9.725 to wrap up GW's vault lineup. The Colonials currently rank t-16th in the country on vault, while Chambliss ranks t-24th nationally and second in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) with her 9.863 average.

IN THE ZONE-a: Leading off the beam lineup, Olivia Zona has posted strong scores in back-to-back meets to pace the squad on the event. At the Little Boston Invitational, Zona earned a 9.850 to finish in a tie for first. On Sunday, the Shrewsbury, Mass., native, continued her season-opening momentum with a 9.800 on beam. Zona also ranks second in EAGL with her 9.825 average. As a team, the Colonials boast the best overall average on beam in EAGL with a 48.888, a mark that also ranks 19th nationally.

ROAD AHEAD: Following their meet at UC Davis on Friday, the Colonials will return to the Charles E. Smith Center on Friday, January 31 to host West Virginia, William & Mary and Pittsburgh for their Pink Meet. Prior to march-outs at 7 p.m., GW will host "Sip and Flip," a wine tasting with light hors d'oeuvres inside the Tin Tabernacle Club. The cost is $15 and includes the single-meet ticket along with an open bar with a selection of wines from Francis Ford Coppola Winery for fans of age.
