EMPIRE STATE OF MIND: GW men's basketball is looking for consecutive A-10 road wins for the first time since the 2013-14 season when it visits Fordham on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Fans can follow live on ESPN+ and TuneIn app.
In '13-'14, the Colonials won at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 18 and then defeated George Mason a week later in Fairfax, VA on Jan. 25 after not playing a midweek game.
LAST TIME OUT: Armel Potter and Maceo Jack led the Colonials to their first road A-10 win with a 75-51 victory over UMass on Saturday. Potter led all scorers with 22 points, which included 16 in the second half. Jack broke out of a scoring slump with 20 points. GW led 39-23 at the half and did not take its foot off the throttle en route to the 24-point road win. Tre Mitchell led the Minutemen with 13 points.
SCOUTING FORDHAM: In the last four games, the Rams have been without the services of three of their top four scorers — Antwon Portley, Erten Gazi, and Chuba Ohams.
Jalen Cobb is Fordham's lone active player averaging double figures (10.9), while Onyi
Eyisi's season-high 17 points in Sunday's loss to Davidson increased his scoring average to 7.5 ppg.
Winless in the A-10, the Rams are being outscored by an average scoring margin of -11.6 points per night. Only UMass (-12.0) and Saint Joseph's (-15.8) have a worse per game scoring margin. Two of Fordham's five defeats have been by six or fewer points with the closest outcome being a two-point loss to Duquesne (58-56) on Jan. 15.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time season series with Fordham, 28-7, and has won nine of the last 10 games dating back to the '12-'13 season. GW and Fordham split the home-and-home series in '18-'19 with the home team prevailing in both meetings.
LARGEST MARGINS: The 24-point win at UMass was the Colonials' largest margin of victory in an A-10 road game in the last 10 seasons. The last time GW won by over 24 points in a league road match was against Fordham on Feb. 13, 2010, a 78-53 victory. GW's last A-10 win by a larger margin of victory was at home against Richmond (2/21/18), a 103-77 win.
WELCOME BACK, JACK: Maceo Jack returned to his scoring ways with 20 points and tied his season-best with seven made field goals against UMass. In the last three games, Jack hit a bit of a rough patch and scored just five points. Prior to that, Jack reached double figures in six straight games and has scored 20+ points three times this season (Evansville - 22, Longwood - 20, UMass - 20).
NELSON THE STAT STUFFER: Jameer Nelson Jr. had quite the performance against UMass with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. He also stuffed the stat sheet by connecting on all six chances from the charity stripe and two 3-point opportunities in 33 minutes of play. This is the second time this season Nelson finished with a stat line of at least 14/7/4. In his collegiate debut against Towson, Nelson finished with a 15/7/5 line.
