Colonials tie season-high on vault; post season-high on bars
WASHINGTON – The George Washington gymnastics team opened its home slate with the 13th Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational on Sunday afternoon in the Charles E. Smith Center. Behind strong team performances on vault and uneven bars, the Colonials finished the day second with a team score of 193.225.
Kent State finished first with a score of 195.325, while GW totaled its 193.225 behind team scores of 48.975 on vault, 48.850 on bars, 48.800 on beam, and 46.600 on floor. Penn (192.850) finished third and Cornell (191.375) took fourth.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their start on vault, posting a season-high matching 48.975. Sophomore Deja Chambliss lead the way, pacing the squad with a career-high 9.875 to tie for the top spot on the podium. Chloe Vitoff also hit a personal-best with a 9.825 to finish third, while senior co-captain Cydney Crasa secured a 9.800. Olivia Norman added a 9.750 and Hannah Munnelly posted a 9.725 to wrap up rotation one.
ROTATION TWO
GW then moved the bars, and finished with a season-high score of 48.850, topping its score from last week by 0.95. The sophomore trio of Olivia Raymond, Simone Banen, and Deja Chambliss topped the team with matching 9.800s to finish in a tie for first. Anna Warhol and Katya Karpova posted identical 9.725s to give the Colonials their season-high score.
ROTATION THREE
The Buff and Blue took to beam for the third rotation, earning a 48.800. Banen continued her momentum on beam with a career-high matching 9.825 to finish second on the day. Crasa also hit a personal best with a 9.800, increasing her score from last week by .050. Zona likewise earned a 9.800, while Raymond finished with a 9.750 and Chambliss added a 9.625.
ROTATION FOUR
GW finished their night on floor, posting a 46.600. Katya Karpova paced the squad with a season-high matching 9.775, while Rachel Kaplan hit her own season-high with a 9.725. Simone Banen (9.100), Cydney Crasa (9.050), and Olivia Zona (8.950) rounded out GW's floor lineup.
UP NEXT: GW will head back out on the road next week with a swing out west to Davis, Calif. The Colonials are set to face UC Davis in quad meet action with Sac State and Alaska on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
