Men's Water Polo Wraps Perfect Opening Weekend

Colonials picked up two more wins Sunday at Air Force
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - George Washington men's water polo closed out a perfect opening weekend with two more victories Sunday at the Air Force Invitational.
The 15th-ranked Colonials downed La Verne, 19-11, and University of Redlands, 10-7, at Cadet Natatorium to improve to 4-0 on the young season.
Andras Levai led the way for the Buff and Blue with a combined 11 goals and five assists on the day. The junior from Hungary sparked the Buff and Blue throughout the season-opening tournament, piling up 20 goals and eight assists over the four victories.
GW 19, La Verne 11:Â Levai tallied five goals and four assists as part of a 19-goal effort to start the day.
GW built a five-goal lead by scoring seven times in the opening quarter and cruised past the Leopards. Andrew Mavis supplied a pair of goals in the fast start.
Mavis posted a season-high four goals with an assist and two steals, while Jordan Blosser and Isher Gill scored two apiece. Ten different Colonials found the net in all in the victory.
Matt Taylor was solid in net with nine stops, and DJ Davis helped the defensive effort with a team-high three steals.
GW 10, University of Redlands 7:Â The Colonials came out on top in a defensive battle to wrap the weekend.
After trailing 7-6 midway through the final quarter, GW scored the game's final four goals to claim the victory. Levai's tally with 2:56 remaining put the Buff and Blue ahead for good.
Levai set a season high with six scores and also nabbed a team-high three steals vs. the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 7 in the CWPA national Division III poll.
Nick Schroeder and Henry Maas each supplied a goal and an assist, while Blosser and Gabriele Simonti scored the other goals for the Colonials.
Taylor recorded six saves to finish the weekend with 40 stops against 37 goals allowed.
