The Colonials recorded their best score in the third and final round
HUNTINGTON, W.V. – HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The GW golf team wrapped up its season opener on Tuesday afternoon at the Marshall Invitational by recording its lowest team score in the final round.

The Colonials carded a 285 in round three on the heels of a 286 in the second round, bouncing back after opening with a 301. That added up to a 20-over par total of 872, placing GW 12th among 16 teams.

Sophomore Luis Alfonso Preciado led the charge by playing his final two rounds at 6-under par. The Mexico City, Mexico, native shot 69 in round two and then came within a shot of his career-low by carding a 67 to finish +3 overall and tied for 45th.

VCU took the team title with a 31-under total of 821, edging out Dayton by three strokes. The Flyers' Kyle Schmidt finished 11-under to secure individual medalist honors.

GW returns to action on Sept. 16-17 in Richmond, Va. for the VCU Janney Invitational.
