Golf in Third Place at A-10 Championship

The Colonials shot +1 on Saturday and are four shots behind first-place VCU
ORLANDO – Behind red figures from senior Logan Lowe and junior Adrian Castagnola, the GW golf team remained in contention at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a team score of +1 in Saturday's second round.

As a team, the Colonials are just four shots behind VCU, which shot even par on Saturday to take the lead away from Davidson with a two-day total of +10. The Wildcats are two shots behind at +12 with GW next at +14. Saint Joseph's (+16) and St. Bonaventure (+17) round out the top five.

Lowe led the charge for GW on Saturday, getting himself back into contention for the individual title with a flawless round. The California native made 14 pars and four birdies for a 68, matching the low round of the day at Grand Cypress Golf Club, to get to 2-under for the tournament. He hit 14 of 18 greens while needing just 28 putts to record his lowest score in 11 career rounds at the course.

After coming into the day tied for eighth and six shots off the lead, Lowe goes into Sunday's final round tied for second and just two shots behind Davidson's Jack Lang, who stayed atop the leaderboard at -4 overall with an even-par round of 72.

Castagnola did his part by leading the field with five birdies on the day for a 1-under 71. The Texan shot 33 on the front 9 before a 38 on the back that was quelled by two bogeys and a double bogey on 18. Still, the junior finds himself tied for sixth place at even-par overall and four shots off the lead.

The Colonials will be in the final pairings with VCU and Davidson on Sunday as they seek their first A-10 Championship since 2012. Clifford Thompson leads GW off at 8:15 a.m. with live scoring available here.
