Colonials set to clash with NC State, Arizona, and Texas Woman’s
Meet Notes
LEADING OFF: With just two meets left in the regular season, the No. 35 George Washington gymnastics team will hit the road for quad-meet action at East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival No. 27 NC State with No. 28 Arizona and No. 56 Texas Woman's on Saturday at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: After upsetting Maryland just three days earlier in the Charles E. Smith Center, the George Washington gymnastics team made the short trip to College Park, Md., on Monday evening for a rematch with the Terrapins on their home turf. Despite strong performances by GW on uneven bars and floor, Maryland came out on top in the team's second meeting, edging the Colonials 194.975-194.675.

ACING THE ALL-AROUND: For the second time this season, fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week. In fitting senior day fashion, Zois closed out her career in the Smith Center with a personal best 39.425 in the all-around to finish in a tie for first place, her third straight all-around title and seventh of the season. The score also tied the highest all-around in EAGL so far this season. The Crofton, Md., native posted a career-high and first place score of 9.875 on vault, a 9.825 on bars, a season-high matching second place score of 9.875 on beam, and a first place score of 9.850 on floor. Zois also finished the night pacing the squad in three events: vault, beam, and floor. The co-captain has cemented her position at the top of the all-around standings in EAGL and ranks 31st nationally.

ROOKIE RECOGNITION: First-year Simone Banen picked up her second EAGL Rookie of the Week honor after putting up solid scores on bars and floor at GW's Senior Day meet. Banen earned a career-high score of 9.850 on bars to place fifth while her 9.800 on floor ranked second on the team and earned her a spot on the podium at third. The Wyckoff, N.J., product ranks 11th in EAGL on bars, tied with NC State's Meredith Robinson.

BUMP ON BARS: The Colonials posted a season-high 49.025 on bars on Friday night, their first score above the 49.000 threshold on bars this season and their third on any event. Banen led the way with her career-high 9.850 while Zois followed closely behind with a 9.825. Annal Warhol added a 9.800 and Olivia Raymond and Julia McLaughlin posted matching 9.775s to wrap up the Colonials' season-high performance on bars.

SOPHOMORE SURGE: GW's sophomores, which make up seven of 18 gymnasts on the team, have lifted the Colonials' lineups so far in 2019. Of those seven sophomores, six have earned a spot on the podium. Hannah Cohen, a fixture on the squad's bars and beam lineups, continues to put up solid scores for the Buff and Blue and posted her seventh straight score on beam above a 9.800 at Maryland with a 9.825. The exercise science and nutrition major also matched her career-high on bars on Monday night with a 9.775, her fourth score above a 9.700 on bars this season. In addition, every sophomore gymnast that has seen action so far in 2019 has either matched or surpassed their career highs, including Rachel Kaplan (9.850 FX), Katya Karpova (9.850 BB, 9.875 FX), Chloe Vitoff (9.750 V), and Anna Warhol (9.825 V, 9.825 UB).

ROCKIN' IN RALEIGH: GW returns to NC State's Reynolds Coliseum after making its fourth consecutive trip, and 14th all-time appearance, to NCAA Regionals in Raleigh last season. At Regionals, the Colonials posted a 195.425 to finish fifth, while Cami Drouin-Allaire earned a 39.275 in the all-around to earn a ticket to the NCAA Championship as an individual qualifier.

ROAD AHEAD: Following their quad meet at NC State, the Colonials will wrap up their regular season on Sunday, March 17 for a 2 p.m. meet at Towson with Maryland, Pittsburgh, and New Hampshire.
