Colonials upset No. 28 Arizona
RALEIGH, N.C. – In its second meet of the week, the George Washington gymnastics team posted a season-high 48.975 on vault and earned its third score above 49.000 on floor with a 49.050 to finish second in quad meet action at NC State on Saturday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum.
On their senior night, the host No. 27 Wolfpack tallied 196.100 to top the field, while No. 28 Arizona finished third with 195.050 and No. 56 Texas Woman's finished fourth with 193.500.
GW earned its 195.250 behind team scores of 48.975 on vault, 48.725 on bars, 48.500 on beam, and 49.050 on floor.
In the all-around, NC State's Drew Gratham (39.475) just edged fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois (39.225) for the top spot on the podium. Zois finished ahead of two other EAGL all-around competitors in the Wolfpack's Lauren Kent (39.075) and Caitlyn Fillard (39.025), and also topped Texas Woman's Bria Northrop (38.925) and Arizona's Maddi Leydin (38.825). The Crofton, Md., native also finished the day on the vault podium with a 9.850 alongside teammate Cydney Crasa.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials kicked off their afternoon on bars, posting a score of 48.725. The bars lineup gave GW a strong start, with every gymnast earning a score above a 9.700. Zois and sophomore Anna Warhol led the way with 9.775s to finish fourth while senior Julia McLaughlin, sophomore Hannah Cohen, and first-years Olivia Raymond and Simone Banen each earned a 9.725.
ROTATION TWO
GW then moved to beam, scoring a 48.500. Cohen continued her hot streak on beam with a 9.850 to pace the squad and finish in a tie for second, while Banen followed closely behind with a 9.800, her best score on beam since she earned a 9.825 in GW's season opening Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Zois posted a solid 9.750, Olivia Zona added a 9.625, and Katya Karpova earned a 9.475 to round out rotation two.
ROTATION THREE
The Colonials took to floor for their third rotation, where they had their best event of the day, earning a 49.050. The 49.050 marks GW's third floor score above the 49.000 threshold this season. Zois led the way with a 9.850 along with Banen, who matched her season-high. Raymond also had a season-high day, earning a 9.800, while Karpova and Crasa wrapped up the floor lineup with identical 9.775s.

The squad closed their afternoon on a high note on vault, posting a season-high 48.975 to take first place. A pair of Colonials surpassed their career-highs, with Cydney Crasa earning a 9.850 and Chloe Vitoff scoring a 9.775. Zois also earned a 9.850 to lead the squad with Crasa, while Anna Warhol added a 9.800. Zona and McLaughlin contributed matching 9.700s to add to GW's season-high score.
