Lacrosse Makes Short Trip to Georgetown

Colonials to face local foe on Tuesday
OPENING DRAW: After playing its last three games at home, the George Washington lacrosse team is set to make the short trip down the road to face Georgetown on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:Â On a cold Friday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the Colonials were dealt a 15-8 defeat by the visiting California Golden Bears. Cal led from start to finish, scoring the first four goals of the game and building an eight-goal lead at its largest. GW would go on to match the visitors in the second half, with each team tallying five scores.

FIRST-YEAR FIREPOWER: First-year Tori Hampton paces the squad with 18 points (9 goals, 3 assists). The Marlton, New Jersey, product tallied two of the Colonials' eight goals on Friday against the Golden Bears and added a team-high six shots and a pair of draw controls.

GROUND BALLIN': GW's defenders have picked up a combined 52 ground balls this season. Sophomore starter Cassie Scandalios leads the team with 17 and totaled a game-high six ground balls against Cal. Junior defender Caroline Esmond sits second on the squad with 12 ground balls, accumulating seven of them in the Colonials' victory against Radford.

ABOUT GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas are coming off of a strong 2018 season where they spent the entire year in the national rankings, sitting as high as No. 21 in the IWLCA poll and No. 17 in the Inside Lacrosse poll. Georgetown is currently ranked 18th with a 4-1 record in 2019, notching victories against Saint Joseph's (Feb. 9), Towson (Feb. 16), Drexel (Feb. 23), and Delaware (March 2). The Hoyas' lone loss was to No. 16 Johns Hopkins on Feb. 27.

ROAD AHEAD: GW will stay in the district for its fifth straight contest on Saturday, March 9 when it hosts Robert Morris at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon campus for a 1 p.m. draw.Â
