The Colonials fell to the Golden Bears, 15-8, Friday afternoon
WASHINGTON – On a cold Friday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the Colonials were dealt a 15-8 defeat by the visiting California Golden Bears.
Cal led from start to finish, scoring the first four goals of the game and building an eight-goal lead at its largest.
GW responded from the early deficit, as three Colonials found the net over a 14-minute span while the defense allowed just one score, to make it 5-3 with 6:28 left in the first half. From there, though, the Bears scored five unanswered to go into intermission with a 10-3 lead.
The Colonials would go on to match the visitors in the second half, with each team tallying five scores.
NOTEWORTHY
· Sophomore Ioanna Mantzouratos and first-year Tori Hampton tallied two goals apiece, while sophomore Catie Perkins had two assists, to lead GW offensively.
· Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Oler played all 60 minutes, faced 35 shots and came up with 12 saves. Two Cal keepers split time and combined for 13 saves against 27 shots.
· Cassie Scandalios collected a game-high six groundballs to help give the Colonials a 15-12 overall advantage. The sophomore leads the team with 17 through four games.
· Cal held a 10-4 advantage in draw controls in the first half to help build its lead. The Colonials had a 6-5 edge in the second half, when goals were even at five apiece.

GW stays in the District for its next two, playing at Georgetown on Tuesday, March 5, before returning home to host Robert Morris on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
