Lacrosse Set to Face California on Friday

Colonials to wrap up three game home stand
OPENING DRAW: The George Washington lacrosse team is set to wrap up its three-game home stand on Friday when it welcomes California to the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 2 p.m. draw.

LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (1-2) came out hot on Sunday afternoon, establishing an early lead that they never surrendered to top Radford, 14-9, at the GW Lacrosse Field. GW finished the day with a 30-26 advantage in shots and were even with the Highlanders with 14 caused turnovers. Radford held a 15-11 edge in draw controls and a narrow 26-25 advantage in ground balls. The victory marked the Colonials' first of the 2019 season.

MORE FROM MANTZOURATOS: Sophomore Ioanna Mantzouratos paced the squad on Sunday with a career-high five goals, four of which came in the game's first half. After sitting out the season opener, the Germantown, Md., product has started the last two contests, totaling six goals, seven ground balls and one caused turnover.

HERE TO ASSIST: Through three games, eight Colonials have found their teammates on the offensive end to tally an assist. Junior Morgan McDonnell leads the pack with four assists after recording a career-high three helpers against Radford. First-year Tori Hampton and junior Katie Quinn follow closely behind with three assists apiece, while juniors Aidan Cage and Caitlin Concannon along with sophomores Abby Carlin and Catie Perkins have two each. Alana Greene also contributed a helper against East Carolina.Â

ABOUT CALIFORNIA: The Bears (1-4) posted their first victory of 2019 on Friday evening, holding off UC Davis, 16-13, to come out on top. The Cal offense featured seven different scorers. Caroline Corzel led the way with five points on four goals and one assist, while Kirsten Swanson and Eliza Christman also garnered hat tricks. Swanson also added an assist to give her four points on the night. In addition to the points, Swanson notched eight draws to lead the Bears.
