
Gymnastics Finishes Second at Brownie & Girl Scout Meet

Colonials earn season-high 49.250 on floor
WASHINGTON - In its first of two meets this weekend, the George Washington gymnastics team put on a show for its annual Brownie & Girl Scout meet, finishing second with a 195.350.
Kent State edged the Colonials by a mere two tenths, topping the field with a 195.550, while Eastern Michigan finished third (194.225) and Towson placed fourth (192.875).
GW earned its 195.350 behind team scores of 48.725 on vault, 48.575 on bars, 48.800 on beam, and a season-high 49.250 on floor.
For the fifth time this season, fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois finished the night at the top of the all-around podium with a 39.200. The Crofton, Maryland, product put up solid scores on all events, but had her best event of the night on floor, where she posted a career-high matching 9.900 to tie for first with Olivia Zona.
Seven different Colonials also finished the night either matching or surpassing their career-highs.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their start on vault, finishing with a team score of 48.725. Leading the squad was Anna Warhol, who posted a career-high 9.825 with a stellar stick off the table. The 9.825 placed her at the second spot on the podium. Fellow sophomore Chloe Vitoff followed behind with a 9.750, a career-high matching score, while Zois and Zona eared identical 9.725s. Senior co-captain Julia McLaughlin rounded out the first rotation with a 9.700.
ROTATION TWO
GW then moved to bars, earning a 48.575. First-year Olivia Raymond set the tone with a season-high 9.825. Zois also had a solid bars performance, registering a 9.775, while McLaughlin posted a 9.725. Simone Banen and Hannah Cohen earned matching 9.625s to wrap up the second rotation.
ROTATION THREE
The Colonials took to beam for the third rotation, posting a 48.800. The duo of Cohen and Zona led the way with identical 9.850s, placing them in a tie for the top spot on the podium. For Zona, the 9.850 marked a career-high. Zois followed closely behind with a 9.800, while Raymond and Banen added matching 9.650s to close it out on beam.
ROTATION FOUR
GW had its best event of the night on floor, finishing with a season-high 49.250. Earning a spot on the top of the podium was the pair of Zois and Zona, who recorded matching 9.900s. For Zois, the 9.900 matched her career-high, while for Zona, the 9.900 marked a new season-high. The sophomore duo of Katya Karpova and Rachel Kaplan also had career-high performances on floor, with Karpova posting a 9.875 and Kaplan following closely behind with a 9.850. Crasa added a 9.725 to wrap up the season-best performance.
UP NEXT
The Colonials will now travel to Kent, Ohio for tri-meet action at Kent State with East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foe NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
