Colonials post season-high scores on vault and beam

KENT, Ohio – In its second meet of the weekend, the George Washington gymnastics team put up a team score of 195.350 behind season-high performances on vault and beam to finish third in tri-meet action at Kent State on Sunday afternoon.

The host Golden Flashes topped the field with a 195.725, while East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival NC State finished second with 195.400, just half a tenth more than the Colonials.

GW earned its 195.350 behind season-high scores on vault (48.900) and beam (48.925) and added a 48.875 on bars and 48.650 on floor.

Fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois finished atop the all-around podium with a season-high matching 39.300, beating out a pair of all-arounders from NC State. The Crofton, Md., product took the bars title with a season-high 9.875 and finished in a tie for third on beam (9.825). Zois also posted solid scores on vault (9.775) and floor (9.825) to contribute to her sixth all-around crown.

Six Colonials also finished the day either matching or surpassing their season highs.

ROTATION ONE
The Colonials got their start on floor, finishing with a score of 48.650. First-year Simone Banen led the way, anchoring GW with a season-high 9.850. Zois followed closely behind with a 9.825, while Rachel Kaplan added a 9.725. Cydney Crasa finished with a 9.675 and Olivia Zona earned a 9.575 to wrap up the first rotation.

ROTATION TWO
GW then moved to vault, totaling a season-high score of 48.900. Crasa set the tone, matching her season-high score of 9.800 to kick off the second rotation. Julia McLaughlin also earned a 9.800 to match her personal best, while Zois and Anna Warhol added identical 9.775s. Chloe Vitoff rounded out the Colonials' season-best performance on vault with a 9.750, marking the second straight meet she has matched her career high.

The squad continued its momentum on bars, earning a 48.875. Zois paced the team with a season-high 9.875, a score that placed her at the top of the podium, while Warhol and first-year Olivia Raymond earned matching 9.775s. Banen followed closely behind with a 9.750, while McLaughlin added a 9.700 to round out the third rotation.

GW wrapped up the afternoon on beam, finishing with a season-high 48.925. Zois once again led the lineup with a third-place score of 9.825, while Hannah Cohen posted her fifth straight score of a 9.800 or higher with a 9.800. Katya Karpova also had a strong performance on beam, finishing with a career-high 9.775, along with Banen. Raymond added a 9.750 to contribute to the Colonials' season-high performance.

The Colonials will return to the Charles E. Smith Center on Friday, March 1, to wrap up their home slate by hosting BYU and Maryland for Senior Day at 7 p.m. Prior to march-outs at 7 p.m., GW will host "The Final Winedown," a wine tasting with light hors d'oeuvres inside the Colonials Club.
