Hix clocks first homer of the campaign as part of four-RBI day

NEW ORLEANS - GW baseball saw a one-run lead evaporate in the sixth inning of Sunday's series finale at Tulane, yielding eight runs to the Green Wave en route to a 16-6 setback at Turchin Field.

The Colonials had rallied from an early 3-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to grab a 4-3 advantage. The Wave, though, scored 13 runs over their final three at-bats to cruise to the sweep-clinching win.

Sophomore Tyler Hix led GW offensively, driving in the first pair of runs with a two-out double in the the top of the fourth. Hix added his first homer of the year, and first for GW as a team, with a two-run shot in the eighth. He finished the day 2-for-4 with the two extra-base knocks and four RBI, part of his team-leading six driven in over the weekend.

First-year Noah Levin also registered a two-hit day, plating a run with a double in the top of the sixth to briefly tie the game. He then scored on an RBI single from sophomore Trevor Kuncl.

Redshirt senior Brady Renner got the start for GW and lasted 3.2 innings. In his first appearance since last February, Renner gave up three runs on five hits while punching out six in a no-decision.

GW now heads home, where it will reside for the majority of the next six weeks. The Colonials have 23 of their next 25 games at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park, including the home-opening series against Saint Peter's starting Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the opener followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon first pitch on Sunday.
