The Colonials and Dukes are set for a noon tip Saturday on NBC Sports Network
TIPPING OFF: The GW men's basketball begins a stretch in which it will play three of four on the road when it visits Duquesne on Saturday for a noon tip. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network. After the Colonials return home to host Massachusetts on Feb. 20, they close the month of February with visits to VCU (Feb. 23) and Rhode Island (Feb. 26).
LAST TIME OUT: In a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate, through six ties and 11 lead changes, Saint Louis took a 73-58 win on Wednesday night in Smith Center. Despite being undermanned, under-sized and plagued by foul trouble, GW found itself on top, 44-42, after a DJ Williams layup with just over 11 minutes remaining. The Billikens, though, kicked it into the gear at that point and outscored GW by 17 the rest of the way. Williams provided a team-high 21 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers. Though both were limited in minutes by foul trouble, Maceo Jack (11) and Javier Langarica (10) joined Williams in double figures.
SERIES HISTORY: Duquesne won its third straight in the series when it stole an overtime victory on Jan. 20 in Smith Center. The Dukes scored 20 of the game's first 22 points, but the Colonials made a colossal comeback to lead by five with 1:07 left. It was Duquesne, however, that made the winning plays down the stretch, sending the game to overtime where it sealed a 91-85 win. Five Colonials scored in double figures, led by Langarica's career-high 19 points, while the sophomore Spaniard added 10 rebounds and five blocks. GW leads the all-time series 51-31, and its tied 20-20 in games played at Duquesne.
SCORING SURGE: While DJ Williams has led GW in scoring throughout much of the season, he's turned it up a notch over the last month. The transfer from Illinois has scored in double figures in eight straight games, averaging 17.5 points on 44.6 percent shooting in that span. For the season, he's averaging 14.5 points on 41.6 percent shooting.
JUMPING JACK: After averaging 2.8 points as a freshman, Jack has made a big jump in production as a sophomore. The Buffalo, New York, native leads the team in 3-pointers made (47) and 3-point field goal percentage (.353), and ranks second on the team in scoring in A-10 play (12.6). He's hit double figures in scoring in 13 of the last 15 games, which is tops on the team in that stretch. He's also GW's most accurate shooter from the charity stripe at a .913 clip (21-23).
