Men’s Water Polo to Host Johns Hopkins and Navy

The George Washington men's water polo team will play in back-to-back MAWPC conference matches this weekend against Johns Hopkins and Navy at the St. James in Springfield, Va. The Colonials will first go head-to-head with the Blue Jays on Saturday at 6 p.m. before taking on the Midshipmen on Sunday at noon.
LAST TIME OUT: Last Friday, the Colonials fell to Navy, 14-8. Andras Levai led the Colonials with three goals, while Andrew Mavis contributed two goals, an assist and three ejections drawn. The loss at Navy brings GW's record to 16-7 overall and 5-2 against conference opponents.
SEEKING REDEMPTION: Before Friday's loss, GW had posted seven straight wins against the Midshipmen. The Colonials will look to even the series with a victory on Sunday.
SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS: The Blue Jays (9-16) secured the CWPA Division III Championship last weekend with a 16-12 victory over MIT. Johns Hopkins is led by senior Finn Banksm, who ranks 18th in school history in career points (208) and seventh in ejections drawn (92). In their last match against MIT, junior Nico Ivanov had a career-best seven points (3g, 4a) and recorded his 100th career goal.
SCOUTING NAVY: The Midshipmen (14-8) currently sit in second place in the MAWPC with a 6-2 mark against conference opponents. They are led defensively by sophomore goalkeeper Max Sandberg, who earned MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after helping Navy to its 14-8 upset over the Colonials. The sophomore goalie played roughly 26 minutes in goal, posting a career-high 12 saves, while surrendering just five goals. Offensively, Isaac Salinas paces the Midshipmen with 75 goals and 86 points in 2019.
