The Colonials and Wildcats are set for a 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday
TIPPING OFF: Coming off a heartbreaking Homecoming loss on Sunday to Duquesne, the GW men's basketball team puts its recent run of road success to the test as it goes looking for its first win at Davidson in more than 50 years when the Colonials and Wildcats tangle in Belk Arena on Wednesday night.
LAST TIME OUT: Despite digging an 18-point deficit early in the first half, GW outplayed Duquesne for much of Sunday's game and led 76-71 with 1:07 to play. It was the Dukes, however, who made the plays down the stretch to force overtime where they took a 91-85 win in Smith Center. Five Colonials scored in double figures led by sophomore forward Javier Langarica's career-high 19 points and team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Classmate Justin Mazzulla added 16 points and a season-high eight assists against just one turnover to lead GW's most efficient performance of the season in that regard (17 assists to 10 turnovers).
ROAD TESTED: The Colonials have picked up both of their league wins in comeback fashion on the road, overcoming double-digit deficits twice in the City of Brotherly Love. At Saint Joseph's, GW trailed by as many as 12 in the first half and faced a 32-25 halftime deficit before controlling the final 20 minutes. With the score tied 52-52, the Colonials closed on an 18-4 run to win going away as Terry Nolan Jr. double-doubled with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Last Wednesday at La Salle, GW trailed 23-14 at halftime after shooting just 16 percent, but responded by scoring 45 points on 68 percent shooting in the second stanza to steal a 59-56 victory.
SERIES HISTORY: Davidson holds a 13-12 edge in the all-time series. The Colonials are 2-8 on the road in the series, and are looking for their first-ever victory in Belk Arena (0-4), Davidson's home since joining the A-10 in 2014. GW's last road win was back during the 1966-67 season, when both schools were members of the Southern Conference.
TIP-INS: Armel Potter, who was sidelined for much of December with an ankle injury, is returning to form and scored in double figures for the first time since the season opener when he had 14 vs. Duquesne … he also had five assists against no turnovers vs. the Dukes and provided the game-winning field goal last Wednesday at La Salle … Mazzulla is the only Colonial to start in all 18 games this season and leads the team in assists and steals … GW's three overtime games this season (1-2 record) are its most since the 2008-09 season (2-1 record).
