Golf Finishes Third at Patriot Intercollegiate

First-year Logan Othmer leads the way with a T-7th finish
LORTON, Va. -- The GW golf team shot a 9-over par 577 in 36 holes to take a third-place finish at the Patriot Intercollegiate hosted by George Mason this weekend at Laurel Hill Golf Club.
Rain once again effected tournament play for the Colonials as the final round scheduled for Sunday was canceled due to unplayable conditions. GW previously was in the field for the VCU Invitational, which was canceled entirely because of rain, and the Marshall Invitational which was shortened to 36 holes.
At the Patriot Intercollegiate, first-year Logan Othmer led the Colonials with a 1-over par 143 (73-70) to finish tied for seventh. Classmate Luis Preciado (T-17, +3) and sophomore Clifford Thompson (T-13, +2) also claimed top-20 finishes.
The host Patriots took the team title with a score of 4-over 572 while Towson finished second at 8-over par 576. Gerald Mackedon of St. John's took medalist honors with a 4-under par 138.
GW is next in action when it heads to Colorado for the Denver Paintbrush Invitational from Oct. 8-9 in search of completing its first 54-hole event of the season.
