Baseball Outlasts La Salle to Win A-10 Opener

ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Washington baseball team opened its Atlantic 10 schedule with an impressive 11-6 win over La Salle on Friday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Key Stats
- The Colonials won their third straight game with Friday's come-from-behind victory over the Explorers.
- GW rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 6-4 to pick up the victory.
- Five of GW's 14 hits on the day went for extra bases (three doubles, one triple, one home run).
- Junior Will Kobos worked the final three innings to pick up his third save of the season.
- GW stole six bases on the day with three coming courtesy of sophomore Steven Barmakian. Senior Robbie Metz also swiped a pair while freshman Colin Brophy picked up his first steal of the season.
- Barmakian had a busy day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a run.
- Sophomore Nate Fassnacht also finished 3-for-4 while junior Dominic D'Alessandro picked up a pair of doubles with three RBI.
- Senior Isaiah Pasteur blasted his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh that put the game out of reach.
- The Colonials used a pair of huge defensive plays in the top of the seventh to keep it a two-run deficit before rallying in the bottom half of the inning. The first came when Chapman came up throwing to gun down a potential base stealer trying to swipe third. Moments later an inning-ending double play saw Osis catch a ball in deep right-center field for the first out before hitting Metz on the relay throw. Metz then threw out a base runner attempting to move to third on the fly ball.
Scoring - Top 2: The Explorers got a key two-out double followed by a RBI single to score the first run of the game (La Salle 1, GW 0).
- Top 3: A fielding error to start the inning was followed by a RBI double. Later in the inning, a pair of RBI singles extended the advantage (La Salle 4, GW 0).
- Bottom 4: GW opened the inning by putting two runners on via a hit batter and a single by Fassnacht. Senior Matt Cosentino followed with a RBI single (La Salle 4, GW 1).
- Bottom 5: Barmakian singled with two outs and then scored on a RBI single by Metz (La Salle 4, GW 2).
- Bottom 5: Senior Mark Osis smoked a RBI triple to the gap in right center to score Metz from second (La Salle 4, GW 3).
- Bottom 5: After a pitching change, Fassnacht lined the first pitch he saw back up the middle for a RBI single, allowing the tying run to score (GW 4, La Salle 4).
- Top 6: The Explorers regained the lead with a one-out, two-run home run (La Salle 6, GW 4).
- Bottom 6: Consecutive walks by Brophy and Chapman led off the inning and D'Alessandro followed with a two-run double to the right-center field gap (GW 6, La Salle 6).
- Bottom 6: With runners on second and third with one out, the go-ahead run scored on a balk (GW 7, La Salle 6).
- Bottom 7: Chapman provided insurance with a RBI single to extend the lead to two runs (GW 8, La Salle 6).
- Bottom 7: D'Alessandro's second RBI double of the day made it 9-6 in favor of the Colonials ahead of a mammoth two-run home run out to left field by Pasteur (GW 11, La Salle 6).
