LEADING OFF: With three weekends left in the regular season the George Washington baseball team heads to nearby Fairfax, Virginia, for a three-game series at George Mason. First pitch in Friday's opener is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
RIVALRY RENEWED: A point in the year-long Revolutionary Rivalry is up for grabs to the winner of this weekend's series. GW has already clinched the Tri-Corner Hat Trophy this season, taking a 14-3 lead with two events remaining. George Washington won the baseball installment last season with a three-game sweep at home.
TOP OF THE CONFERENCE: GW enters the weekend leading the Atlantic 10 in team batting average (.286) and stolen bases (69). On the defensive side, the Colonials boast the conference's top defensive unit with a league-best and national top-10 fielding percentage (10th in NCAA, .981). The Colonials also lead the A-10 and rank third overall in all of Division I in double plays (50) and 10th in double plays per game (1.67).
THREES COMPANY: The Colonials have three players ranking in the top 10 in the conference for total hits. Senior Bobby Campbell leads the A-10 with 82 hits on the season while ranking fourth in batting average at .354. Senior Joey Bartosic ranks fourth with 61 hits and freshman Nate Fassnacht is seventh with 59.
BEST FOR LAST: Campbell is enjoying a career season in his final year. He currently boasts single-season career-high totals of seven home runs, 36 runs scored, 18 walks and is on pace to break his previous career-high in RBIs (38 entering weekend).
He has also been on fire at the plate, reaching base safely in his last 21 games, including hits in nine straight games.
PLAYING LIKE A VET: Freshman Nate Fassnacht is playing like a seasoned upperclassmen in the final weeks of his rookie season. The reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week enters the weekend on a nine-game hit streak and has been on base in 21 consecutive games. He also has hit safely in 18 of the last 19 games.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON: The Patriots have won four games in a row following Tuesday's non-conference win at Towson. George Mason sits at 22-24 on the year with a 10-5 mark in the A-10.
The Patriots boast a team batting average of .254 while pitchers have worked to a 4.63 ERA.
