Baseball Announces Initial 2018 Recruiting Class

WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team has announced that eleven student-athletes are slated to join the program for the 2017-18 academic year.
The initial class encompasses student-athletes from seven states across the country with six pitchers, three infielders and two catchers on board for the 2018 season.
"We would like to extend our congratulations to these outstanding young men who are committed to help the continued elevation of this program in the years to come," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Dave Lorber. "Each of these student-athletes has the ability to make an impact on the lineup immediately and we are excited to welcome them to campus next fall."
Harrison Cohen
Syosset, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor
6'0 - 175 lbs

High School/Club: Ranked 19th-overall right-handed pitcher in New York by Perfect Game and also ranked in the Top 1000 in the United States … All-Conference Pitcher at Cold Spring Harbor High School … fired a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and two walks on April 13 … Named a top-30 player by aXess Baseball … selected to Perfect Game 17-Under WWBA All-Tournament Team … played for Long Island Body Armor Titans (2016), CGI Braves (2013-15), Long Island Breakers (2011-13), Long Island Inferno (2010) and Long Island Threshers (2008-09) club teams.
Niall Doherty

High School/Club: 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-America Honorable Mention … VISSA Second Team All-State selection and First Team All-Metro Conference pick … helped Atlantic Shores Christian School to the state finals … recipient of Atlantic Shores Christian Coach's Award … played for Richmond Braves National Team, helping squad to back-to-back Triple Crown Championships … also helped Richmond Braves to North Carolina World Series Championship.

High School/Club: Helped Dallastown Area High School to the 2016 YAIAA County Championship … First Team All-County selection as a junior after batting .446 with 22 walks, .603 on-base percentage and 1.177 OPS … two-time participant on Team Pennsylvania in the Big26 Game … played for Mid-Atlantic Rookies club team for three years.
Mitchel Hoon

Coach Lorber on Hoon: "Mitchell has the ability to throw strikes with multiple pitches. He has competed extremely well across both high school and summer ball. He has the ability to start or relieve for us upon his arrival."
High School/Club: 2016 Perfect Game Preseason All-America pitcher at Cumberland Valley High School … All-State Honorable Mention as a junior after boasting a 1.53 ERA with 61 strikeouts over 59.1 innings … helped Cumberland Valley to the PIAA AAAA State Semifinals … struck out 40 with a 1.27 ERA across 33 innings as a sophomore … pitched for Pennsylvania in annual BIG26 Classic … played for club teams Evoshield Canes (2016), Harrisburg Junior Senators (2015), American Legion Silver Spring (2015), Mid-Atlantic Rookies (2014-15) and B2B Bombers (2014).

High School/Club: Rated as the No. 8 high school prospect in the state of Oregon by Baseball Northwest … Four-year letterwinner for head coach Greg Whitten … third player in Pendleton High School history to earn four letters in baseball … as a senior, batted .341 with five doubles and six RBI … First-team all-league and named Pendleton's Defensive MVP as a junior … Batted .347 with eight doubles, one home run, 17 RBI and 30 stolen bases as a junior … Thirty stolen bases broke a program record previously set in 1988 … As a sophomore, batted .244 with five doubles, one home run, eight RBI and seven stolen bases and was named honorable mention all-league … Was also named team Defensive MVP.

At North Lake College: All-Conference and All-Region starting pitcher at North Lake College (Irving, Texas) … posted a 2.03 ERA and 88 strikeouts across 79.2 innings pitched in 15 starts … held opponents to a .154 batting average.
High School/Club: First Team All-District pitcher as a senior at Mansfield High School … struck out 52 batters with a 1.02 ERA as a senior.
