SAINT LOUIS - Top-seeded VCU broke a 3-3 tie with six runs over the sixth and seventh innings to deal the George Washington baseball team a 9-4 loss on Thursday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.

GW (31-26) will now face No. 2 seed Rhode Island in an elimination game on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. CT.

The Colonials scored first in what was a tightly-contested game over the first six innings on a RBI single by junior Brandon Chapman in the top of the second inning. VCU (34-20) rebounded with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to move ahead, 2-1.

GW's starting pitcher Elliott Raimo was forced out of the game with an injury after just one pitch in the bottom of the third. Senior Eddie Muhl entered in relief and allowed one run before retiring the side.

The Colonials battled back to tie the score at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Senior Eli Kashi hit a one-out single and moved to third on a double by senior Joey Bartosic. Kashi scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to one run at 3-2 before senior Andrew Selby laid down a perfect safety squeeze to score Bartosic from third and tie the game at 3-3.

Muhl pitched well in the middle innings but VCU broke the tie with two runs in the top of the sixth before pushing across four runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 9-3.

The Colonials plated one run in the top of the ninth on a fielder's choice RBI by junior Mark Osis to make the final score 9-4.
