Baseball Falls in Middle Game, 8-5, at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. - The George Washington baseball team had its comeback bid fall short in an 8-5 loss to Richmond in game two of the series on Saturday at Pitt Field.
GW was facing a 2-0 deficit after Richmond plated single runs in the first and third innings. The Colonials stormed back with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.
The visitors loaded the bases with no outs on an infield single by senior Cody Bryant and walks by freshman Nate Fassnacht and junior Robbie Metz. Bryant came in to score on a wild pitch for GW's first run ahead of a run-scoring groundout by senior Eli Kashi. Senior Joey Bartosic then tied the game at 3-3 with a RBI single.
Richmond responded with five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth as the Spiders seized an 8-3 lead.
The Colonials cut into the deficit on a two-run single by Selby in the top of the sixth but that is as close as they would get after Richmond added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh for the final 8-5 tally.
GW aims to win the series in Sunday's rubber match. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
