CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The George Washington baseball team traveled south in search of its fourth consecutive midweek win but was dealt an 11-1 loss by No. 18 Virginia in the finale of the home-and-home series on Wednesday at Davenport Field.
Virginia scored three runs in the first inning and led 7-0 after scoring in each of the first four frames. The lead was eventually extended to 11-0 with a single run in the sixth and a trio of runs in the seventh before the Colonials got on the board with their lone run in the top of the eighth when junior Robbie Metz scored on a wild pitch.
GW totaled eight hits in the contest with senior Cody Bryant finishing a team-best 2-for-3 with one walk.
The Colonials aim to get back in the win column when they open a three-game series at Richmond this weekend. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
