ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Washington baseball team fell in the opening game of an Atlantic 10 Conference series on Friday afternoon, 12-2, against Davidson at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Davidson built a big lead thanks to a flurry of two-out runs, scoring three times in the third inning and once in the fourth, to build a 4-0 lead.
GW got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single by freshman Nate Fassnacht, but the Wildcats kept the pressure on with two runs in the top of the sixth to extend the lead back to five runs at 6-1.
GW plated a run on a double play in the bottom of the sixth but that would be all it could muster as Davidson extended the lead to 12-2 with two in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Game two will be played on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
