LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will take a break from its Atlantic 10 schedule for a three-game, non-conference series at Villanova this weekend. Games will run from Thursday through Saturday with first pitch on Thursday scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW used a three-man pitching performance and a late RBI from junior Brandon Chapman to rally past UMBC, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Tucker Field. The win secured the season sweep over the Retrievers and improved the Colonials' midweek record this season to 5-3.
NO FREE PASS: Freshmen Emmett Harkins and Jaret Edwards, along with senior Eddie Muhl, combined to not allow a single walk in Tuesday's win. It marks the first time this season that GW pitchers did not issue a base on balls.
BYE WEEK: The Colonials enter the bye week at 4-5 in the Atlantic 10 following last week's series win at Richmond. GW resumes its conference schedule by hosting Rhode Island for a three-game set at Tucker Field next weekend.
DEFENSE: GW continues to boast the top defensive unit in the Atlantic 10 with a league-best .978 fielding percentage. The Colonials have also turned 38 double plays on the season, which is 15 more twin killings than the closest conference foe.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the series, 3-2, across five all-time meetings, but the Colonials and Wildcats have not met since 1994.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Wildcats are 6-18 overall on the year but off to a 2-1 start in the Big East following last weekend's series win over Xavier.
Villanova is batting .220 as a team this season with a staff ERA of 6.28.
