LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team continues its homestand by hosting NJIT this weekend for its first home series of the season. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW held No. 8 Virginia to three runs below its season average in a 7-1 loss on Tuesday at Tucker Field. The Colonials were within striking distance for majority of the game before the Cavaliers pulled away late to secure the win.
HOME SWEET HOME: Friday's game marks the second in a string of eight straight games at home. In total, the Colonials will play 11 of their next 12 games at Tucker Field, with only a scheduled midweek game at UMBC (March 21) interrupting the run.
STREAK CONTINUES: Senior Joey Bartosic went 3-for-4 against Virginia to extend his hit streak to 11 straight games. During the run, the centerfielder is hitting .320 with seven doubles, three runs and one RBI.
DRIVE THEM IN: Bobby Campbell, Mark Osis and Robbie Metz have each driven in nine runs in the first 13 games of the season to share the team lead. All three have multiple-RBI games to their credit, with Campbell accomplishing the feat in three games thus far.
RENNER'S GOOD START: Junior Brady Renner leads the Colonials' pitching staff with a 1.90 ERA across 13.2 innings of work. He has started three games to date and has registered 11 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .255 batting average.
SERIES HISTORY: GW is 2-2 is in four games against NJIT. The teams first met in 2008, a 12-5 neutral-site win for GW.
The teams split a weather-shortened home series in 2015 and the Highlanders won last year's midweek game, 6-0, to even the all-time series.
