LEXINGTON, Va. - A six-run second inning had the George Washington baseball team on its way to a rubber-match win on Sunday but VMI rallied by scoring in each of the last five innings to knock off the Colonials, 13-8, on Sunday at Gray-Minor Stadium.

GW pushed across six runs on five hits in the top of the second inning, using RBI singles from Cody Bryant and Matt Cosentino, a two-run double from Mark Osis and RBIs from Eli Kashi and Robbie Metz to build an early 6-0 lead.

VMI did not retaliate until the fourth inning when the Keydets totaled three hits and took advantage of a fielding error to push across four runs and cut the deficit to two at 6-4. VMI added a single run in the fifth to make it 6-5, but Osis earned a RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth to make the score 7-5.

The Keydets put up a crooked number in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits, to storm all the way back to a 10-7 advantage. One run in the seventh made it 11-7 before junior Brandon Chapman homered for the second straight day with a solo shot in the top of the eighth, but VMI added two more insurance runs for the final 13-8 tally.

Senior Joey Bartosic hit safely in all three games this weekend to extend his current hit streak to 10 games.

GW returns home to Tucker Field on Tuesday to host Virginia for the first time ever. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
