LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will make the short trip south this weekend to Richmond, Virginia, for a three-game series at VCU. The series is scheduled to run from Friday-Sunday with first pitch in game one set for 6:30 p.m. from The Diamond.
The Colonials' offense rattled off 11 unanswered runs over the final five innings while three bullpen pitchers combined to allow just one run over six innings of relief.
REVENGE ON THE MIND: VCU won two-of-three games at the Tuck during the regular season last year before taking both postseason games over the Colonials at the A-10 Championship.
PITCHING ON POINT: After a slow start to the season, the Colonials' pitching staff has evened out and currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in team ERA (3.86).
AT THE PLATE: As a team the Colonials rank third overall in the Atlantic 10 with a team batting average of .274. GW's offense also boasts conference ranks of third in hits (223), fourth in RBI (106) and third in stolen bases (30).
BOB'in ALONG: Senior first baseman Bobby Campbell enters the weekend ranked second overall in the Atlantic 10 with 34 hits while sitting third overall in the league (.378) in batting average amongst players with at least 15 games played.
He leads the Colonials with a .378 batting average, 18 RBIs, 11 multiple-hit games and five multi-RBI games while sharing the team lead with three home runs.
METZ BACK TO DOUBLE DUTY: Junior infielder Robbie Metz has been hot at the plate, going a combined 5-for-12 with four RBIs over the past three games. He returned to his other craft on Tuesday against UMBC, allowing one over two innings of relief.
It marked Metz's first appearance on the mound since 8.1 innings of work against Florida A&M on February 26.
SCOUTING VCU: The Rams are 14-11 on the season after Wednesday's loss to No. 18 Virginia.
VCU swept La Salle last weekend at home, surrendering just one run in the three-game series, to open A-10 play.
