LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team kicks off its Atlantic 10 schedule when it hosts Massachusetts for a three-game series this weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Junior Brandon Chapman also went deep in the contest while the Colonials' bullpen provided five innings of scoreless relief.
HEATING UP: GW has overcome a slow start to the season to win six of its last seven games, including the last three in a row, to pull its season record to 9-11 in the first 20 games of the year.
KOBOS: Sophomore Will Kobos leads the Colonials with 22 strikeouts across 19.2 innings. He has been a reliable midweek starter with two starts to date, but has truly shined in relief.
In his last outing against UMBC he fanned five batters in 2.2 innings without yielding a hit or walk. Across his last three appearances he has totaled 10 strikeouts against just one walk and has not allowed a run since March 5.
MULTI-HIT STREAK: Senior Joey Bartosic is no stranger to streaks at the plate. GW's all-time hit streak record holder (24 games) hit safely in 12 straight games earlier this season. He is currently on a different streak, having recorded multiple hits in each of the past four games to raise his season average to .314.
SCOUTING UMASS: A 10-run eighth inning sent UMass to their third straight loss on Tuesday night against Holy Cross as the Minutemen fell to 4-8 on the year.
SERIES HISTORY: The teams last met in 2015 when the Colonials won two-of-three games on the road. The Minutemen hold a slight advantage in the all-time series, 25-23.
