GW Women's Tennis Begins Singles Play on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA â€" The George Washington women's tennis team had an impressive showing on Saturday in the start of singles play of the Saint Joseph's Invitational at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus.
Singles play across the tournament's four flights began on Saturday. Both singles and doubles play will conclude on Sunday.
After receiving a first round bye, sophomore Maria Siopacha posted a dominant defeat of Lafayette's Rocine Moschella, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the semifinal round in Flight 1.
Siopacha will be joined in the Flight 1 semifinals by freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu and junior Marie-Louise Decamps. Bayraktaroglu won her opening round matchup against Villanova's Lindsey Evans 6-3, 6-3 before grabbing another 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Drexel's Lea Wrinkler.
Decamps won her opening round matchup, 7-6 (4), 6-0, over Villanova's Kaylan Rotman. In her quarterfinal matchup, Decamps cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win over SJU's Maureen Devlin.
Sophomore Victoria Kogan posted a strong day, taking a dominant, 6-1, 6-1, win in the Flight 2 opening round over Lafayette's Grace Conrad before advancing to the semifinal round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over SJU's Alex Zachem.
Senior Taylor Nederlander was edged in the opening round of Flight 2, falling to Villanova's Carina Burdick 7-6 (5), 5-7, 14-12. Nederlander bounced back in her consolation match, coming away with the 7-5, 6-3 victory over SJU's Isis Gill-Reid.
Junior Kamilla Beisenova advanced to the semifinal round of Flight 3, earning the 6-2, 6-2 victory over Villanova's Connor Brewer in the opening round before taking down Drexel's Ryshena Providence 6-1, 6-2. Senior Allison Hansen went the distance in her, Flight 3 opening match, but fell, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, to Bucknell's Mishi Papich. Hansen regrouped in her consolation draw, dominating in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Villanova's Ellie Zimmerman.
Both singles and doubles flight champions will be crowned on Sunday in the final day of competition at the SJU Invite.
