WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis program has added junior transfer Kamilla Beisenova to the squad for the 2016-2017 season, head coach Torrie Browning announced.
"With Kamilla coming in as a junior, she will already have two years of college tennis experience which is key. She knows what college tennis is all about," said Browning. "She will definitely add depth to our team. She is a good player and I'm looking forward to seeing her progress this year."
A native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Beisenova joins the Colonials as a junior transferring from Elon University. In 2015, Beisenova finished out her freshman campaign with a 10-6 singles record and a 4-0 doubles mark. Her first year of play was highlighted by a win over then-No. 4 North Carolina's Maggie Kane (7-5, 4-6, 1-0). In 2016, she earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status by posting a GPA above a 3.50 during her sophomore season.
A four-star recruit out of high school, Beisenova achieved success in both singles and doubles competition as a member of the Walt Whitman High School women's tennis team in Bethesda, Maryland. The rising junior was a Doubles State Champion her sophomore year and a singles finalist as a senior. She also received All-Metropolitan First Team honors at the conclusion of her senior season. As a high school student-athlete, Beisenova achieved a No. 5 ranking in Maryland and a top-100 ranking nationally.
Beisenova will accompany Melis Bayraktaroglu and Maria Siopacha to complete a trio of newcomers joining the squad for the 2016-17 season.
