GW Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. - The George Washington women's tennis squad has earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award for the 2015-16 season. Additionally, rising sophomore Victoria Kogan, rising junior Marie-Louise Decamps, rising senior Allison Hansen and recent graduates Egle Jakuciunaite and Lana Robins achieved ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
The Colonials earn ITA Academic Team honors for the fifth consecutive season and were named GW's Female Academic Team of the Year at the fifth annual Georgey Awards after posting a team GPA of 3.52 during the 2015-16 academic year. On the court, GW advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals as the seventh seed.
"I am really proud of the academic success we continue to have," said head coach Torrie Browning. "We stress the importance of academics and it is just great to see our student-athletes being honored for all of their hard work."
The All-Academic Team award is presented to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above. Individually, student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the academic year to qualify for the Scholar-Athlete award.
As a rookie, Kogan excelled in the classroom, landing on both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls and being recognized on GW's Athletics Academic Dean's list during her first year as a biomedical engineering major, posting a 3.90 GPA.
An A-10 All-Academic Team honoree, Decamps posted a stellar sophomore campaign, tallying a 16-9 overall singles record - including a 5-1 mark against A-10 foes. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native received the prestigious Outstanding Academic Achievement Award as a sophomore after earning a perfect 4.0 GPA and has landed on the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List and the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls this year. The ITA Scholar-Athlete nod marks the second of Decamps' career.
A biomedical engineering major, Hansen served as half of GW's top doubles tandem in 2016, posting an overall 9-12 mark as a junior. The Champaign, Illinois, native earned a 3.86 GPA during the 2015-16 academic year en route to both Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honors while landing on GW's Athletics Academic Dean's List. Hansen garners ITA Scholar-Athlete status for the third time in her career.
Jakuciunaite tallied a 3.68 GPA in her senior year as an international affairs major. The product of Vilnius, Lithuania, landed on both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. On the court, Jakuciunaite's eight singles wins and seven doubles victories marked career highs for the 2016 graduate. Jakuciunaite earns ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction for the fourth time in her career.
Robins graduated in 2016 as the Elliot School of International Affairs' Distinguished Scholar after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA as a senior. While the Bellevue, Washington, native was kept off the court for most of the 2015-16 season due to injury, the international affairs major achieved success both in the classroom and in the community. A two-time Outstanding Academic Achievement Award winner, Robins landed on both the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls, while earning a spot on GW's Athletics Academic Dean's List. For her work in the community, Robins was named GW's Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month in November of her senior year. Robins earns ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction for the fourth time in her career.
