BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Jacob Williams allowed just one earned run over seven strong innings, but it was not enough as Fordham clinched the series by taking the middle game, 3-1, over George Washington on Saturday afternoon at Houlihan Park.
Williams was the hard-luck loser after limiting Fordham to three runs (one earned) on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts across seven innings of work. Senior Luke Olson pitched a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen.
GW (20-27, 9-8) threatened in the top of the first inning with runners on the corners with one out, but could not push across a run.
Fordham (25-23, 11-6 A-10) took advantage of a fielding error to score two times in the bottom of the third inning to move ahead 2-0, but GW got one run back in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by junior Bobby Campbell.
The Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single and maintained the 3-1 advantage for the remainder of the game.
The Colonials threatened in the sixth inning, but stranded runners on second and third to end the frame. GW had another chance in the seventh inning with a pair of runners on base after a hit and an error, but a base runner was caught stealing to thwart the chance.
Junior Joey Bartosic finished 2-for-4 to extend his hit streak to 12 consecutive games. He has now notched multiple hits in each of his last three games.
Sophomore Mark Osis also added a pair of hits for the Colonials.
Game three will be played on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
