PLAYOFF PICTURE: The top seven teams following this weekend's league slate will advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship, May 25-30, at Fordham's Houlihan Park in Bronx, New York.
GW and Saint Louis are currently tied with Fordham for fourth place in the standings with identical 12-9 records. VCU and Rhode Island are tied for first at 15-6, followed by Saint Joseph's in third at 14-7. Davidson (10-11), Richmond (11-13) and St. Bonaventure (9-12) are also alive in the playoff hunt.
LAST TIME OUT: GW picked up three huge wins in a dramatic sweep of Richmond last weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The Colonials rallied in all three games to pick up a trio of much-needed wins.
Junior Kevin Mahala led the Colonials at the plate by batting .385 with five runs, one double, one triple, one RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Senior Luke Olson played a major role in two of the three wins over the Spiders, going 1-0 with seven innings of shutout relief to earn Colonial of the Week honors.
CENTURY MARK: Head Coach Gregg Ritchie earned his 100th career victory on Saturday when the Colonials erased a 4-1 deficit to earn a 7-5 win. He is the sixth head coach in program history to eclipse the 100-win mark.
BARTOSIC'S BAT: Junior Joey Bartosic, who was honored as the Colonials' Most Valuable Player prior to Sunday's home finale, is hitting a torrid .386 in A-10 Conference games.
For the season, he leads the Atlantic 10 with 74 hits and ranks second with 18 stolen bases. Additionally, he paces the Colonials team with 24 multiple-hit games and 43 runs.
CAN'T GO HOME: GW's pitchers worked out of a number of jams over the three-game series with Richmond, combining to strand a total of 39 baserunners.
NO WHIFFS HERE: GW batters struck out just nine times across the three-game series with Richmond. Only Fordham boasts a fewer amount of offensive strikeouts in the A-10 this season.
Bartosic and junior Bobby Campbell are two of the toughest batters to strikeout in the Atlantic 10 this year. Bartosic strikes out once per 14.8 at-bats (2nd in A-10) while Campbell goes an average of 10.9 at-bats between strikeouts (12th in A-10).
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS: Saint Louis is 22-29 overall entering Thursday's opener. The Billikens are batting .272 as a team with a 4.43 staff ERA.
Josh Bunselmeyer leads the A-10 with 50 RBIs in addition to his team-best marks of 12 home runs, .413 on-base percentage and .576 slugging percentage. He is hitting .309, one of two everyday players batting above .300.
Leadoff hitter Michasel Bozarth is hitting .309 while leading the conference with 22 stolen bases. Braxton Martinez (.271, 13 2B, 6 HR, 38 RBI) and Trent Leimkuehler (.298, 11 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR, 33 RBI) also provide some pop in the lineup.
