SAINT LOUIS - Junior Joey Bartosic tallied his team-best 25th multiple-hit game of the season with his third four-hit effort of the year, but it was not enough as the George Washington baseball team fell, 11-1, to Saint Louis in the series opener on Thursday evening at the Billiken Sports Complex.
After a scoreless first inning, GW (23-29, 12-10 A-10) scored first in the top half of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Andrew Selby led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a single by junior Eric Ramsey before scoring on a RBI single by Bartosic.
Saint Louis (23-23, 13-9 A-10) plated three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. The Billikens added a pair of runs in the fifth before breaking the game open with a six-run eighth inning to build an 11-1 lead.
GW and Saint Louis play game two on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET.
