GW Baseball Visits Maryland on Wednesday

LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team returns to action when it visits Maryland for a non-conference clash on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park, Maryland.
REWIND: GW downed No. 16 Maryland, 12-1, back on April 8 of last season. The win marked the first over Maryland since February 16, 2003, and the first triumph over a ranked opponent since March 26, 2008.
The Colonials got multiple-RBI efforts from Brandon Chapman (3-for-4, two runs, two RBIs), Kevin Mahala (1-for-5, two RBIs) and Ryan Xepoleas (1-for-5, two RBIs) and had seven pitchers combine to limit the Terrapins to one run on eight hits.
LOCAL DOMINANCE: The win over Maryland last season contributed to an 11-3 overall record against local teams. The record includes wins over Maryland, Georgetown, Towson, UMBC, Mount St. Mary's, Coppin State, George Mason and UMES.
ON THE MARK: Sophomore Mark Osis is hitting a torrid .447 through the season's first 11 games. He is 17-for-38 at the plate with seven runs scored, one double, one triple and three RBIs. He has recorded multiple hits in five games, including a 5-for-5 effort in Saturday's game against CSUN.
POWER SOURCE: Junior Kevin Mahala paces the Colonials with 10 RBIs and eight extra base hits. He is tops on the team with five doubles and two home runs, contributing to a team-best slugging percentage of .600.
SOLID SWEENEY: Junior Shane Sweeney is the projected starter for Wednesday's game. In three appearances this season he has posted a 0.90 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 10.0 innings of work.
