GW Baseball Travels South for RussMatt Invitational

BACK TO FLORIDA: The George Washington baseball team heads to the Sunshine State for its second consecutive weekend in Florida to compete in the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. Last weekend, the Colonials went 1-2 in a three-game series at North Florida.
SCHEDULE & ROTATION: Senior Bobby LeWarne will get the start in the first of two games against Kent State (Fri., 11 a.m.). Sophomore Robbie Metz will start the second game against the Golden Flashes (Sat., 2:30 p.m.). Senior Jacob Williams will be on the bump for the Colonials in Sunday's finale against Ball State (11:00 a.m.).
LAST TIME OUT: Junior Shane Sweeney threw five shutout innings with nine strikeouts and freshman Justin Friedman, senior Randy Dalrymple and junior Eddie Muhl combined for four shutout innings of relief as the Colonials cruised to an 8-0 win over Delaware State in their home opener on Tuesday evening.
GW's pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts in the victory and yielded just four combined hits.
At the plate, junior Bobby Campbell knocked in three runs on a pair of doubles. Sophomore Mark Osis, junior Andrew Selby and sophomore Robbie Metz each added a pair of hits in the victory.
DOMINANT DEFENSE: The Colonials, one season removed from a program-record fielding percentage (.976), have committed just one error in four games this season (.993).
MAHALA MASHING: Junior shortstop Kevin Mahala is off to a blistering start in 2016. He has collected six hits this season (.353), five of which have been for extra bases. He has two doubles, one triple and one home run to go with a team-leading six RBIs. He is slugging .824 across the first four games.
EXTRA BASES: Speaking of extra-base hits, over half of GW's hits though four games have been for extra bases. The Colonials have combined to total nine doubles, one triple and two home runs.
