The Colonials never trailed, but George Mason (8-12, 3-4 A-10) kept it close in a 27-23 first quarter. GW stretched its lead to 10 twice in the second quarter before a 9-0 Mason run cut it to one, but the Colonials ended the period with an 8-2 spurt for a 46-39 halftime lead. GW began to pull away with another 8-0 run midway through the third, and a 3-pointer by Chase at the buzzer gave the Colonials a 13-point lead, 67-54.
Taylor Brown paced the Patriots with 16 points and five assists, while Kara Wright and Kristi Mokube added 12 points apiece.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday, when they visit A-10 rival Davidson for the first time ever.
