WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis squad opens its fall season with a pair of tournaments this weekend. The Colonials will compete at the Elon Invitational and the Saint Joseph's Invitational from Friday-Sunday.
2015 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team member Teodora Radosavljevic returns to the court at the Elon Invitational after a stellar rookie campaign, along with classmate Marie-Louise Decamps, junior Taylor Nederlander and freshman Diana Kussainova. Senior Egle Jakuciunaite, junior Allison Hansen and freshman Victoria Kogan will compete at the Saint Joseph's Invitational.
The Elon Invitational which takes place at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, will feature representatives form 16 schools and will begin both singles and doubles play on Friday and continue through Sunday. The tournament will consist of six singles and doubles flights, with champions crowned on Sunday.
Radosavljevic and Kussainova will begin singles play for GW on Friday at 9 a.m., taking on Emory's Michelle Satterfield in the Maroon Flight and Georgia Southern's Mary Phillips Smith in the Phoenix Flight, respectively. Nederlander will take on Georgia Southern's Giulia Riepe at 10:15 a.m. in Acorn Flight action, and Decamps will compete against Elon's Kirsten Ward at 12:30 p.m. in the Maroon Flight to round out the first day of singles play for the Colonials. All singles quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Saturday, while Sunday's play will determine flight champions.
In the doubles slate, Radosavljevic and Decamps will pair up to face Liberty's Maria Khval and Anna Dollar in the Maroon Flight, while the duo of Nederlander and Kussainova will take on Elon's Erica Braschi and Kirsten Ward in the Phoenix Flight on Friday in quarterfinals action. All quarterfinal and semifinal doubles matches will be played on Friday at to-be-determined times, and champions will be crowned on Sunday.
The Saint Joseph's Invitational will feature players from Bucknell, Delaware, La Salle, Loyola (Md.), Norfolk State and host Saint Joseph's. The three-day tournament, which will take place at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus, will consist of two doubles flights and four singles flights, with doubles beginning on Friday and singles on Saturday.
The pair of Hansen and Kogan will take on Delaware's Annie Jaskulski and Amanda Studnicki on Friday at 3 p.m. in the Flight 1 quarterfinals after a first-round bye. Jakuciunaite will partner with Norfolk State's Ana Popovic to take on Loyola's Julie Clark and Nicole Eberle in Flight 2 first-round action.
In singles play, Kogan will begin Saturday's action for GW with an 11 a.m. first-round bout in the second flight against La Salle's Alexandra Santerelli. Hansen will face Loyola's Eberle at noon after receiving a first-round bye in Flight 3, while Jakuciunaite will take on the winner of Bucknell's Emilie Bush and Delaware's Sarah Hall at 12:30 p.m. after receiving a bye into the quarterfinals of Flight 4.
