Two George Washington women's tennis rising sophomores are improving their skills through international competition together. Teodora Radosavljevic and Marie-Louise Decamps are spending their summer competing on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) pro circuit to prepare for the 2015-16 Colonials season, and they have partnered for doubles play at every opportunity.
After pairing with each other on six occasions during their rookie campaigns at GW, Radosavljevic and Decamps have played in two professional tournaments as doubles partners. Banja Luka, a tournament hosted by Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the first from June 8-14, where the duo reached the quarterfinal round for their best finish of the summer so far. The second was a contest in Nis, Serbia, where the classmates competed in the round of 16.
"Having similar doubles tactics that we developed at GW definitely helped," said Radosavljevic. "It's been very easy to communicate."
ITF tournaments allow players to face high level competition, with Radosavljevic and Decamps among a field that includes players ranked as high as 360 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings.
"The level of these tournaments is tough," said Decamps. "It's great to get more experience playing against these tough players that play professional tennis all year long."
Before the close of the spring 2015 semester, Radosavljevic and Decamps decided to partner up for summer tournaments whenever possible. Radosavljevic, a native of Serbia, invited Decamps to play in tournaments hosted in and around her home country.
Aside from doubles play, Radosavljevic and Decamps are each competing in singles action. Decamps holds a 2-2 solo record while Radosavljevic has posted a 3-5 mark, the latter highlighted by an appearance in the round of 16 at the Antalya tournament in Turkey.
"I am getting the match experience that is crucial to success in college tennis," said Radosavljevic. "As a doubles pair, Marie and I have certainly improved, and we have had a great time while playing."
