GW Baseball Resumes A-10 Schedule at UMass

WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will carry its five-game win streak and 4-1 Atlantic 10 record into this weekend's series at Massachusetts, beginning with a Friday doubleheader at 10:00 a.m. The series will be played at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Massachusetts.
GW (15-8, 4-1 A-10) defeated Mount St. Mary's, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon for its fifth straight victory and eighth win in its last 10 outings.
The Colonials swept St. Bonaventure last weekend at Tucker Field in its Atlantic 10 home-opening series to improve to 4-1 in league play this season. GW enters this weekend in second place in the Atlantic 10 standings, one game behind first-place Richmond.
The Colonials boast the top-ranked defense and third best staff ERA in the conference entering Friday's game. GW's .980 fielding percentage ranks first in the A-10 and eighth overall in Division I while its staff ERA of 3.33 is third in the A-10.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic continues to pace the Colonials as the team's leadoff hitter. He is batting .355 on the season, which ranks 11th in the conference, while leading the team in runs (18), hits (33), total bases (38) and stolen bases (12-for-14). He has also driven in 12 runs this season.
Freshman Robbie Metz ranks second on the team with a .315 batting average while pacing the Colonials pitching staff with an Atlantic 10 leading 0.57 ERA across five starts as a pitcher. In 31.1 innings, he boasts a 2-0 record with 18 strikeouts against just five walks.
Bartosic and Metz share the team lead with 10 multiple-hit games apiece.
Sophomore Bobby Campbell has reached base safely in 11 consecutive games to raise his batting average to .309. He leads the team with 16 RBIs.
Sophomore Kevin Mahala paces the Colonials with three home runs this season. He has also tallied three doubles and 12 RBIs.
Sophomore Eddie Muhl's nine saves rank him 11th in the nation and first in the Atlantic 10 entering the weekend. He has a 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings with 13 strikeouts against just three walks.
Massachusetts is 4-8 overall this season but sports a 4-2 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Minutemen swept Dayton on the road in their first conference series of the season before dropping two out of three games at VCU.
