WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will look to avenge an early season loss when it visits UMES on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game at Hawk Stadium in Princess Anne, Maryland. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
GW (21-10, 9-2 A-10) has won 11 of its last 13 games following last week's win at then-No. 16 Maryland, its first against a ranked opponent since 2008, and a three-game sweep of Dayton at Tucker Field.
Sophomore Eddie Muhl became GW's single-season saves leader when he picked up his NCAA leading 13th save of the season in Sunday's finale over Dayton. He saved each of the three wins over the Flyers and currently boasts a 0.49 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18.2 innings.
The Colonials pitching staff ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 48th in Division I with a staff ERA of 3.33. GW is led by freshman Robbie Metz, who carries a 1.82 ERA and 3-1 record across seven starts.
Offensively, the Colonials rank sixth in the Atlantic 10 with a team batting average of .271. Sophomore Joey Bartosic continues to pace the offense from the leadoff position, batting .344 with 24 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. He also leads the team with 14 multiple-hit games.
Sophomore Andrew Selby, who currently owns an 11-game hit streak, and sophomore Bobby Campbell are each batting .313 on the season. Selby leads the Colonials in triples (5), extra-base hits (16) and slugging percentage (.566) while Campbell is tied for the team lead with 18 RBIs.
UMES (11-22) defeated GW, 8-2, on March 3 at Tucker Field and has lost four straight games after being swept by Norfolk State over the weekend.
