WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will return to action this weekend by hosting a three-game series with Manhattan at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The teams will play a single game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
The Colonials earned the season sweep over Georgetown with a 5-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field. Freshman Robbie Metz earned his first collegiate win by pitching seven innings of one-run ball and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI. Metz has hit safely in all seven games this season.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic has also hit safely in all seven games this season to extend his program-record hit streak to 21 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the Atlantic 10 entering the weekend. The Oakton, Virginia, native currently leads the Colonials with a .462 batting average.
Sophomore Eddie Muhl has been dominant through the first seven games of the season and has pitched 17.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, dating back to April 20 of last season. Muhl has two saves and six strikeouts with no walks in 5.2 innings of relief this year.
GW is 24-of-26 in stolen bases attempts this season and currently ranks second in NCAA Division I with 3.43 steals per game and eighth overall with 24 total steals.
The Colonials also lead the Atlantic 10 in both team batting average (.291) and staff earned-run average (3.29).
