WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will open a five-game homestand by hosting Delaware State on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
GW (10-7) opened its Atlantic 10 schedule in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday with a doubleheader split at Saint Joseph's. Game 1 of the series was cancelled due to winter weather conditions.
Tuesday's game at Coppin State was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. No makeup date has been announced at this time.
GW will play just its second home game since March 8 on Wednesday. Last Wednesday, the Colonials scored 10 runs on 12 hits in a 10-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's
Sophomore Joey Bartosic and freshman Robbie Metz each rank among the top 10 in the Atlantic 10 for batting average. Bartosic leads the Colonials and ranks sixth in the conference at .368, while Metz is ninth, hitting at a .358 clip.
Metz also ranks third in the A-10 with an ERA of 0.74 (minimum of 10.0 IP) and holds a 1-0 record with 14 strikeouts and two walks in four starts.
Sophomore Andrew Selby leads the A-10 and is tied for second in NCAA Division I with five triples on the season. He also leads the nation with 0.29 triples per game while pacing the Colonials in slugging percentage (.564) and extra base hits (four doubles, five triples).
Sophomore Eddie Muhl leads the A-10 with five saves while boasting a 0.96 ERA and eight strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
Delaware State is 5-11 this season, but swept Coppin State in a three-game series last weekend. The Hornets defeated the Colonials, 7-5, last season at Tucker Field.
GW will host St. Bonaventure in its A-10 home opener this weekend. The three-game series kicks off on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Tucker Field.
