WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Georgetown at 2:30 p.m. at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Due to inclement weather over the past few weeks, GW (1-1) has not played since splitting its season-opening doubleheader against NJIT on February 14. Georgetown (1-2) returns to action following an 11-day layoff due to winter weather conditions in the area.
Freshman Robbie Metz, who will make his first career start on the mound on Wednesday, was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the first weekend of the season. The Poolesville, Maryland, native batted .400 across the two games against NJIT and collected multiple hits in each outing.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic leads the Colonials with a .556 batting average (5-for-9) through two games this season. As a team, GW is batting .282 and is 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
GW leads the all-time series with Georgetown, 89-39-1, but lost both games last season. Kevin Mahala finished 4-for-9 with two RBIs in the two games against the Hoyas last season.
